Collection: Michael Anderson
Michael Anderson obsessively culls mass-media imagery to create pulsating, mosaic-like collages. Extracted primarily from billboards and advertisements, Anderson’s subjects—running the gamut from Britney Spears to Che Guevara—are reconfigured and distorted to create intricately fragmented, almost cubistic compositions, whose surprising juxtapositions tempt viewers to read a grander narrative or critique below the ornate surface. Anderson begins his process by hand collecting posters from streets in ethnic neighborhoods around the world, often culling dozens of the same image.
His work can be found in art collections around the globe. One of his permanent installations is at the ACE Hotel in NYC.
