Patrick Burns his work is considered to be conceptual and interdisciplinary in nature. Exploring a multitude of ideas and materials, the artist attempts to discern meaning from personal history and identity. He was raised in a rural town in West Virginia in a biracial military family. This upbringing allowed him to see many of the contradictions that are inherent to the American lifestyle. Multiculturalism, pride, nationalism, racism, and clashing ideologies were all integral to the artist’s growth and perspective as he came of age.
