Collection: Patrick Burns
Patrick Burns his work is conceptual and interdisciplinary in nature. Exploring a multitude of ideas and materials, the artist attempts to discern meaning from personal history and identity. He was raised in a rural town in West Virginia in a biracial military family. This upbringing allowed him to see many of the contradictions that are inherent to the American lifestyle.
His expanded body of work focuses on the peculiarities and contradictions of American life and the complex narratives surrounding American culture and history. Appropriating found materials imbued with both latent and blatant symbolism in relation to the American ethos, the artist transforms everyday objects to both highlight and subvert their meaning.
