3 Days in Detroit

3 Days in Detroit

Detroit, once a city known for its industrial decline, has emerged as a phoenix rising from the ashes. If you are looking for a great long weekend getaway, Detroit is your city! In just 3 days, you can experience the vibrant murals, public art, eclectic restaurants, and unique city vibe that make Detroit a hidden gem waiting to be explored. We visited to city to pick up our favorite coffee from The African Company, and we came back energized, inspired and ready to share the gems we discovered along the way

Immerse Yourself in Art

Start your journey by exploring Detroit's thriving art scene. Wander through the streets adorned with colorful murals, each telling a story of resilience and creativity. Visit the renowned Detroit Institute of Arts to marvel at masterpieces by world-renowned artists, or visit the immense sculpture "waiting" by KAWS, a downtown landmark that makes for great pictures. On your walks through the city you will find many impressive murals.

Indulge in Culinary Delights

Embark on a culinary adventure in Detroit, a city that boasts a diverse and innovative food scene. From cozy cafes to upscale dining establishments, there is something to tantalize every palate. For dinner on our first night, we took the 15 minute ride through the tunnel to Windsor, Canada and we had authentic Italian pasta at Spago, mind you on Saturday nights a reservation is necessary!
Alpino Detroit is another great restaurant with slightly European roots to indulge in cozy food in a great atmosphere. And good to know for vegetarians: most dishes can be made vegan or meatless upon request. For breakfast we went to Cannelle by Matt Knio, where you can sit indoor and outdoor to indulge in French pastries and fantastic breakfast croissants.

Embrace the City Vibe

On your walks in Detroit, soak in the unique city vibe that sets this metropolis apart. Explore the bustling Eastern Market, take the tram to vibrant neighborhoods, and visit historic landmarks that showcase Detroit's rich history and promising future. Feel the pulse of the city as you interact with locals who embody the spirit of resilience and community. On Sunday, we visited the downtown Motor City Church, for worship and sweet uplifting chats. On Monday morning we took an uber to the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and we did the Ford Rouge Factory tour, a daytrip just outside of Detroit that is worth the ride.

As you bid farewell to Detroit, you will carry with you memories of a city reborn, a place where art, cuisine, and culture converge to create an unforgettable experience. Detroit may have faced challenges in the past, but today it stands as a testament to the power of reinvention and the beauty that emerges from adversity.
