Collection: Lotte Ekkel & Kathrin Mundwiler
Lotte Lisa Ekkel (NL, 1988) and Kathrin Mundwiler (CH, 1984) are Amsterdam-based photographers who found one another first as friends and later as collaborators, forming a photographers’ collective. Their shared fascination with themes of identity, belonging, and the human condition gives their work a natural cohesion, whether they are engaged in a documentary series or a more conceptual project. They are often drawn to the same scenes and subjects, yet each interprets them through a distinct visual language, revealing two perspectives on the same reality.
For Ekkel, light is both subject and compass. Her images are precise and graphic, often carrying a painterly stillness that transforms spaces into abstract compositions. She gravitates toward in-between places where time feels suspended and emptiness resonates with quiet intent.
Mundwiler, meanwhile, turns her eye to the subtle ways in which people express themselves through their environments. She is drawn to the visible and invisible narratives embedded in place, translating them through bold colors and strong compositions.
Together, their photographs form a dialogue, blending seamlessly while illuminating contrasts. In this interplay, their practices enrich one another, creating a body of work that thrives on both symbiosis and differences.
