Light of Day - Los Angeles - Apple Tower

 Light of Day is an ongoing photographic series by Jaap Vliegenthart. Originally developed in Amsterdam, the project later expanded to Tokyo and Los Angeles, a city whose legendary light has inspired the artist throughout his career.

In this body of work, Vliegenthart explores the seductive, glamorous, and sometimes mischievous character of Los Angeles. The city’s rich history and cinematic mythology create a landscape where reality and nostalgia often blur together. By observing fleeting moments over the course of a single day, he constructs images that feel both documentary and dreamlike.

These photographs are not AI-generated. For each work, Vliegenthart spends hours observing and filming a single location, capturing hundreds of fleeting moments. He then combines these moments into one carefully constructed image. While the final scene never existed exactly as shown, every element was captured in real life, creating a unique blend of documentation and artistic interpretation.
